Senator Edwin Sifuna has dismissed claims that Western Kenya businessman Ibrahim Ambwere is financing his anticipated 2027 presidential bid, saying the reports are founded on speculation rather than verified facts.
Speaking to journalists from the Western region on Friday ahead of the Linda Mwananchi movement’s political rallies in Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties, Sifuna urged both the media and members of the public to rely on confirmed information instead of unverified claims circulating on social media.
The Nairobi Senator said he has not received any indication that Ambwere intends to support his political ambitions financially.
According to Sifuna, the businessman has never publicly announced such plans, making it inappropriate for anyone to present the claims as factual.
“I cannot confirm the truth of the claims about Ambwere because there is a lot of information circulating on social media.
Journalists should distinguish between what has been verified and what remains speculation,” Sifuna said.
His remarks follow widespread online discussion suggesting that Ambwere could become one of the financiers of a possible Sifuna presidential campaign in the 2027 General Election.
However, no official statement from either Ambwere or Sifuna’s political team has confirmed any such arrangement.
Ambwere is a well-known businessman with investments across Western Kenya and is also recognized as the father of media personality Melody Sinzore.
His name recently attracted political attention after Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale shared a newspaper clipping on social media claiming that several influential individuals, including Ambwere, were expected to bankroll Sifuna’s future campaign.
Despite the speculation, there has been no independent evidence supporting the claims. Neither Ambwere nor his representatives have publicly commented on the matter.
The discussion comes at a time when leaders aligned with the Linda Mwananchi movement are intensifying grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections.
The movement has expanded its activities across several counties through public rallies and civic engagement forums aimed at building political support.
Although some allies have reportedly explored fundraising strategies to strengthen the movement’s operations, there has been no official confirmation linking Ambwere to any fundraising initiative or campaign financing plan.
Sifuna’s latest remarks therefore seek to separate political speculation from verified information as discussions surrounding the 2027 race continue to gather momentum.
