According to a set of new rules known as the KENHA Draft Regulations 2024, the Kenyan government has levied a Ksh400,000 fine on any Kenyans operating a vehicle with a gross weight of 3,500 kilograms who flee or even disregard a weighing station.
Kenyans who drive the designated class of motor vehicles and evade weighing stations will be sentenced to two years in prison if found guilty, according to the Kenyan government.
The Kenyan government has also disclosed that any Kenyan national discovered driving an overloaded vehicle will face a Ksh400,000 fine or two years in prison.
The Kenyan government has stated that the new legislation are aimed to prevent cars from being overloaded and to require all cars weighing more than 3,500 kg to undergo an axle weight test to ensure they are carrying the permissible amount of weight.
