New details have emerged from the High Court judgment in the murder of Sharon Otieno, with the court revealing how former Migori county boss Governor Okoth Obado tried to keep their relationship secret in the months before her untimely death.
According to K24 Digital news platform, the court noted that when Sharon Otieno was heavily pregnant, Obado begged her on several occasions to terminate the pregnancy and to stop posting photos of hotels they had visited together on social media.
However, Sharon confided in her mother, Melida Auma, that she was pregnant and that the ex-governor was responsible. She also told her mother that Obado was pressuring her to terminate the pregnancy.
In her testimony, Sharon’s mother told the court that Obado was offering her daughter Kshs 30,000 to cover the cost of a termination procedure.
Aside from that, the court heard that Melida Auma advised Sharon against terminating the pregnancy and that Sharon heeded her mother’s advice and decided to keep the baby.
While giving her verdict, Lady Justice Cecilia Githua therefore concluded that Obado’s main motive was to hide the relationship and the pregnancy from becoming public and that was the probable reason as to why Sharon was killed.
Specifically Justice Cecelia Githua affirmed that Okoth Obado’s motive to eliminate Sharon was because he wanted to protect his reputation and to also conceal their secret relationship from members of the public.
