Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has returned to the public spotlight after a period of relative silence, unveiling an ambitious agricultural innovation project that could reshape Kenya’s banana value chain and ignite fresh conversations across the country’s political and economic landscape.
Her latest update has drawn widespread attention, with supporters and critics alike speculating about the “big announcement” she hinted is on the way.
According to Wamuchomba, the journey began with extensive learning and research in Kisii, Uganda, South Africa and Europe, where she studied modern techniques for adding value to the banana crop.
After three years of research and innovation, she revealed that her team has successfully developed an organic banana wine that has already received certification from KEBS and KRA, marking what she described as a major milestone in promoting locally manufactured products.
The legislator also disclosed that she met Principal Secretary for MSMEs Susan Mangeni to discuss strategies for empowering young people through the banana value chain.
Beyond wine production, she said the project aims to expand opportunities by producing natural fibre from bananas while creating employment for thousands of farmers and youth through value addition.
