President William Ruto has appointed former Ol Kalou parliamentary candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga as a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission (NRC), just days after he lost the July 16, 2026, by-election.
Muchina, who contested the seat on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, has been named to the commission following a presidential appointment. He replaces Amos Chege Mugo, whose appointment to the commission has been revoked.
The appointment comes shortly after the highly contested Ol Kalou by-election, where Muchina was defeated by Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau in a race that attracted national attention. The by-election was closely watched as it was viewed as a political contest between President Ruto’s UDA and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP.
