Homicide detectives have recovered the head of murdered woman Joy Kanini after the main suspect, John Muriithi, allegedly led investigators to a pit latrine in Kandara.
The grim discovery came during an excavation supervised by detectives as they continued piecing together the circumstances surrounding Kanini’s death. Police believe the recovered remains will play a key role in the ongoing investigation.
Investigators spent several hours at the scene before retrieving the remains from the pit latrine. The area was secured as forensic officers documented the recovery and collected evidence for further examination.
John Muriithi, who is the prime suspect in the case, reportedly directed detectives to the location after being questioned by investigators. Police have not disclosed what information he provided or whether he admitted to any involvement in the killing.
The recovered remains are expected to undergo forensic analysis to confirm their identity and assist detectives in establishing the events leading to Kanini’s death. Authorities are also expected to use the findings to strengthen the case before it is presented in court.
The murder has drawn widespread public attention, with many Kenyans calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the victim. Residents in the area gathered near the scene as detectives carried out the excavation, although police restricted access to allow investigators to work without interference.
Detectives say investigations are still ongoing and have urged members of the public to avoid speculation while the inquiry continues.
They have assured Kanini’s family that every effort is being made to establish the full truth behind the killing and hold those responsible accountable.
The recovery of the victim’s head marks a significant development in the case and could provide crucial evidence as investigators work to uncover what happened.
Police are expected to continue gathering witness statements and forensic evidence before making further announcements on the progress of the investigation.
