Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina has hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after he again linked her to alleged violence ahead of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
Taking to her Facebook account on Friday, July 10, the Murang’a Woman Rep dismissed Gachagua’s repeated references to her during his public appearances, suggesting he had become overly focused on her.
The UDA lawmaker sarcastically asked whether the DCP party leader was her “secret admirer,” adding that he could join her for coffee and “pour out” his feelings instead of mentioning her in nearly every press briefing.
“You are soo obsessed with me. You cannot be mentioning me daily in all your press briefings. Maybe we can do coffee, you pour out your heart,” read part of the lawmaker’s post.
Her remarks came shortly after Gachagua’s presser responding to comments made by IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon on the possibility of postponing or cancelling the Ol Kalou by-election if widespread violence occurs.
During the press conference, Gachagua alleged that the violence was being organised by Betty Maina, her husband Eric Wamumbi, and former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria using groups brought into Ol Kalou from outside the constituency.
The ex-deputy president claimed that a group of rogue police officers from Nairobi was staying at a hotel in Ol Kalou under the direction of Betty and her husband, the Mathira MP.
The Murang’a Woman Representative did not, however, respond to the allegations made against her and her husband. Instead, she chose to ridicule Gachagua over what she described as his repeated public references to her.
