A Kenyan woman identified as Mary has opened up about her unusual past relationship arrangement in which she maintained relationships with two men at the same time, both of whom were aware of each other’s existence.
Speaking in an interview, Mary narrated how she navigated life between the two men while raising her children and struggling to make ends meet in Nairobi.
The mother of five said one of the men lived in Kayole while the other resided in Dandora, and she regularly moved between the two homes.
According to Mary, her journey began after becoming pregnant while still in secondary school. She later had more children with different partners as she faced various challenges in life.
After relocating to Nairobi in search of better opportunities, she met a man in Kayole who became one of her partners.
She later met another man from Mombasa who settled in Dandora. Mary said the arrangement saw her spending her days with the Dandora-based man before returning to the Kayole home in the evenings.
“The man in Kayole knew I had another partner, while the one in Dandora was aware that I lived with another man,” she recalled.
Mary described the Kayole partner as carefree and unwilling to contribute to household expenses, while the Dandora-based man was more supportive and often provided food and other necessities.
Despite the unconventional arrangement, she said both men played different roles in her life during difficult periods.
The mother of five also recounted spending several months at Kenyatta National Hospital following childbirth, claiming that although one partner regularly visited her with food and clothing, she eventually left the hospital on her own after facing financial challenges.
Mary said the relationships were often marked by conflict, including verbal and physical altercations. She eventually ended the arrangement and later moved to Saudi Arabia in search of employment opportunities and a fresh start.
Her story has sparked debate online, with many Kenyans sharing mixed reactions to the unconventional family setup and the challenges she endured while raising her children.
