The Linda Mwananchi team led by Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna was in Kisii on Friday where they first attended a women empowerment event in Mosocho, Kitutu Chache South constituency, they then held a mega rally at Kisii town after which they proceeded to Keumbu where they intended to stop.
Upon arriving at Keumbu, the Linda Mwananchi team encountered with a mobilized crowd of goons who hurled stones at their convoy and this made them not to stop at the market. Unfortunately, two people were left dead and several others sustained injuries resulting from the stone throwing that forced drivers to move with high speed even on pumps.
The incident at Keumbu has since then been condemned heavily and a boycott campaign started online against buying goods in the market majorly the roadside Bananas and sugarcane. The decision to boycott the goods was arrived at after video footages from the market showed even women throwing stones at the Linda Mwananchi convoy.
Two days after the unfortunate incident, Some Keumbu market sellers have now come out asking the public to forgive them and buy their goods, one lady with sugarcane on her hands says that she had held her sugarcane since morning and nobody has bought from her. The traders have distanced them from the violence and they have asked for forgiveness since their daily business has come to an abrupt stop.
