President William Ruto’s visit to Embu County was briefly overshadowed on Sunday after a vehicle attached to his presidential motorcade was involved in a road accident along the Embu–Meru Highway, leaving several people injured.

The accident occurred at Mutunduri as the presidential convoy was traveling through the area. According to eyewitnesses, the escort vehicle was moving at high speed when it collided with a lorry, causing panic among motorists and residents nearby.

Members of the public, together with emergency responders, rushed to the scene to rescue those injured. The victims were taken to nearby health facilities for treatment, although authorities had not immediately disclosed the exact number of casualties or the severity of their injuries.

The crash also caused significant traffic disruption along the busy Embu–Meru Highway as police and other officials worked to clear the wreckage and restore the normal flow of vehicles.

Authorities are expected to launch investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the collision.

The incident comes as President Ruto continues with his engagements in the Mt. Kenya region, with more details on the accident expected as investigations progress.
