Polygamist

Digital creators Kabi and Milly Wa Jesus are facing intense social media backlash after trying to distance themselves from the themes of the trending series The Polygamist. The drama unfolded after Milly publicly criticized the hit show, sparking a wave of online reactions that quickly brought Kabi’s controversial past back into the spotlight.

Milly Condemns the Series, Champions Monogamy

Taking to social media, Milly Wa Jesus firmly stated that she refused to watch the series, proudly declaring that her household stands strictly for monogamy. Kabi enthusiastically agreed with his wife, grinning for the camera and declaring himself a “monogamy ambassador.”

Milly went a step further to question married couples and adults in their 30s who are hooked on the drama, wondering how they find the time to watch it.

“Mi sitawatch hiyo Polygamist nimekataa, me I stand for monogamy… watu wanasema wanaogopa kuingia kwa ndoa after that,” (I refuse to watch ‘The Polygamist,’ I stand for monogamy… people are saying they are afraid of getting married after watching it) Milly stated.

She claimed the show was causing viewers to lose sleep, show up late for work, and ultimately lose faith in the institution of marriage.

Netizens Pull Up Kabi’s Receipts

The couple’s moral stance quickly backfired. Netizens were quick to point out the hypocrisy, drawing parallels between Kabi and the show’s main character, Jonasi Gomora. Critics reminded Kabi of his own highly publicized scandal where he initially denied, but later admitted to, siring a child with his cousin before his marriage to Milly.

In The Polygamist, the central character Jonasi—a wealthy banker—finds his life spiraling out of control as his first wife, a secret second wife, a mistress, and a girlfriend all battle for his affection and wealth. Commentators argued that Kabi’s chaotic personal history made his “monogamy ambassador” title ironic.

Milly Fiercely Defends Her Husband

Unshaken by the wave of criticism, Milly fired back at online detractors. She defended Kabi, arguing that his past mistakes should not overshadow the changed man he is today.

“Ata msisahau, it’s part of his testimony,” Milly fired back. “Having to go back years into someone’s past because their present gives you nothing to criticize is diabolical.”
