According to reports, more than 50 students were taken to hospital after sustaining injuries in a road accident involving a school bus on Wednesday morning along the Eldama Ravine–Nakuru road.
The accident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. near the Kibasiso area when a bus belonging to Pineview Academy Kiplogon reportedly developed a mechanical problem and lost control. Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle may have suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose command of the bus before it veered off the road and overturned.
At the time of the incident, the bus was transporting students to Mogotio, where they were scheduled to participate in regional music festivals. The journey was interrupted when the vehicle crashed, leaving dozens of learners injured.
Police investigations revealed that the bus was carrying about 59 students drawn from two different schools. All the learners on board sustained injuries of varying severity during the accident. However, initial assessments suggested that none of the injuries were life-threatening, providing some relief to families, school officials, and emergency responders.
Following the crash, rescue teams and other first responders moved swiftly to the scene to assist the injured students. Emergency personnel worked to ensure that the learners received immediate medical attention before being transported to health facilities in Eldama Ravine for further treatment and observation.
Authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident to establish the exact cause. Early indications point to a possible brake malfunction, though officials are expected to conduct a detailed inspection of the vehicle as part of the inquiry.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about road safety and the mechanical condition of vehicles used to transport students. While no fatalities were reported, the accident resulted in injuries to every student on board, underscoring the potential risks associated with school transportation.
Medical teams continued monitoring the injured learners after their admission to various hospitals, while police officers gathered information from witnesses and other relevant parties to support ongoing investigations into the crash.
