Mood Driver

The man behind the wheel of George Ruto’s famous Mood matatu has broken his silence on claims that he pockets KSh 200,000 every month, refusing to confirm or deny the figure while revealing what actually determines a matatu driver’s take-home pay.

Lenny, who has driven for the first son since Mood was unveiled, spoke during an NTV interview on Monday, June 15, 2026, addressing the salary rumours that have followed him since he became a recognisable face in Kenya’s nganya culture.

He shut down the speculation without giving a number. “The salary that I get is my secret. You are not supposed to go around announcing how much you earn. The more trips you make, the more you earn,” he said.

Lenny also addressed the Detat matatu accident that killed five people along Enterprise Road, admitting he knows how to perform the viral swerving stunts but has stopped. “I personally know how to do those stunts, but I do not do them anymore. You simply play with the steering wheel from side to side, but now we know better,” he said.

He warned that fan pressure is pushing drivers into dangerous behaviour, and said the industry has collectively resolved to step back from stunts before matatu culture destroys itself.
