A woman from Machakos County has shared a heartbreaking account of how she allegedly lost more than KSh300,000 to a man she believed was her future husband while she worked in the Gulf.
According to her claims, she began a relationship with a General Service Unit officer identified as Erick Munyalo in 2023.Despite living abroad, she said they maintained frequent communication and developed what she considered a serious romantic relationship.
The woman alleges that over time, the officer repeatedly sought financial assistance for various needs, including daily expenses, emergencies, work-related costs and construction projects.
Believing she was supporting a trusted partner, she says she regularly sent money after being assured that the funds would eventually be refunded.
She claims the requests continued for more than two years, but the promised repayments never came.
Instead, she says she was given fresh explanations and further assurances whenever she asked about the money. The situation reportedly took a painful turn when she allegedly accessed WhatsApp conversations linked to the officer.
According to her, the messages suggested that she was not the only woman involved with him.
She further claimed that more than ten women appeared to have maintained close relationships with the officer and that some had similar complaints about money they had allegedly sent and never recovered.
Her shock deepened after she allegedly discovered that the man was married and had a child.
She says she had been led to believe throughout the relationship that he was single.
The woman has now decided to speak publicly, hoping her experience will warn others about the risks of online and long-distance relationships, particularly when money becomes involved.
The allegations have sparked discussion on social media, with many Kenyans expressing sympathy while urging people to exercise caution before sending money to romantic partners.
The claims remain unverified, and the officer had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
