Suna East MP and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has dismissed claims by CS Justin Muturi that the 2026/2027 National Budget will be the first in Kenya’s history to be presented in the absence of a sitting president.
Junet argued that former President Mwai Kibaki was the last Head of State to personally attend Parliament during the reading of the national budget, noting that presidents have not been required to be present for the exercise in recent years.
Junet accused the opposition, which Muturi is currently associated with, of misleading Kenyans on issues surrounding the Finance Bill and the national budget. He claimed that some opposition leaders have been spreading misinformation and creating unnecessary fear among citizens regarding proposed fiscal measures.
The MP maintained that Parliament remains the proper institution to debate and approve budget proposals. He urged Kenyans to rely on factual information and follow official parliamentary proceedings when assessing the contents of the Finance Bill.
