Kenyans should brace for changing weather conditions this week after the Kenya Meteorological Department forecast rainfall in several parts of the country beginning June 9, 2026.
According to the latest weather outlook covering June 9 to June 15, most regions are expected to experience generally dry conditions. However, residents living in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley as well as parts of the Coastal region should prepare for occasional rainfall during the period.
The weather agency noted that showers are likely to occur intermittently, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours, and could temporarily affect transport and outdoor activities in the affected areas.
At the same time, cloudy and chilly conditions are expected in various regions, including parts of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, Northeastern Kenya, and the Highlands on both sides of the Rift Valley. The cloud cover is likely to keep daytime temperatures lower than usual in some areas.
While some regions experience cool weather, others are expected to remain hot. Daytime temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius are forecast in parts of the Coast, Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya, the Southeastern Lowlands, and sections of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
Health experts often advise residents in hot regions to drink enough water and limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during the hottest hours of the day.
Night temperatures are also expected to fall significantly in high-altitude areas. The forecast shows minimum temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in parts of Central Rift Valley, the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, and areas around Mount Kilimanjaro.
Residents in these cold-prone regions have been advised to keep warm, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours when temperatures are expected to be at their lowest.
The weather outlook paints a mixed picture across the country, with some regions experiencing heat and dry conditions while others contend with cool temperatures, cloud cover, and occasional rainfall. Farmers, travellers, and event organizers are encouraged to monitor daily weather updates as conditions may change throughout the week.
Overall, Kenya is expected to remain largely dry during the forecast period, although pockets of rainfall and significant temperature variations will continue to be experienced in selected regions.
