MP Babu Owino on Friday evening visited comedian and activist Eric Omondi at the Nairobi Area Regional Police Headquarters, where he is being held following his arrest at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
This marks the first public sighting of Eric Omondi since his detention earlier in the day, drawing attention from supporters and members of the public closely following the case.
In a post following his visit, Babu Owino confirmed that he met with Omondi at the police station at approximately 12:15 PM after his arrest.
He expressed worry regarding the charges against the comedian, labeling them as unjust & lacking merit.
Babu stated that the police had refused to provide Omondi with bail, indicating that the case will now move forward to court.
He also urged his supporters to brace themselves for the upcoming legal proceedings set for Monday.
Additionally, the legislator criticized the way the case was being handled, describing the allegations against Omondi as “frivolous” and “vexatious,” and he called for the legal process to be adhered to properly.Eric was taken into custody earlier today by DCI detectives at JKIA, as part of an investigation into alleged offenses associated with recent fuel protests in Nairobi.
Authorities indicate that the investigation is still in progress, and several other individuals linked to these events have already been arrested and charged.
This case has ignited public discussion, with advocates urging for transparency and equitable treatment, while law enforcement asserts that all suspects will be handled in accordance with the law.
Omondi is anticipated to appear in court on Monday as inquiries into protest-related incidents proceed.
