Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is widely known for his strong personality and outspoken leadership style.
While many Kenyans know him through politics, fewer people know about his family and the achievements of his children.
Rigathi Gachagua has been married to Pastor Dorcas Wanjiku Rigathi for more than 35 years.
Together, they have two sons, Kelvin Gachagua and Dr. Keith Ikinu. Kelvin is a software engineer, while Keith is a medical doctor who also assists in managing some of the family’s business interests.
Dr. Keith Ikinu first gained national attention while still a student. He was among the top performers in the 2010 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Keith studied at Alliance High School, one of Kenya’s most respected schools.
According to the 2010 KCSE national ranking, Keith scored an impressive mean grade of A plain with 86.92 points.
This outstanding performance placed him among the country’s best students and earned him the 17th position nationally.
After completing his secondary education, Keith joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree.
The course is known to be demanding and requires years of dedication and hard work. Keith successfully completed his studies and graduated in December 2019.
His graduation was a proud moment for the entire family. Rigathi Gachagua shared his joy in a message, revealing that he had returned to the University of Nairobi graduation square after 30 years to witness his son’s achievement.
He expressed gratitude to God and praised Keith for successfully completing a challenging six-year medical course.
Gachagua also noted that he and his wife were overwhelmed with excitement and pride as they watched their youngest son receive his medical degree.
