The curtains have fallen on Deputy Kenya Army commander Major General ( Rtd ) Mohammed Nur Hassan after over three decades in the military.
In the changes made Thursday, June 5, 2025, by the Defence Council chaired by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, Major General ( Rtd) Nur was allowed to proceed on retirement.
Former Central Command commandant, Major General John Nkoimo, was appointed as the new Kenya Army Deputy Commander.
Major General Nkoimo had previously served as the commandant, National Defence College and commandant, Border Contro Init.
The veteran military officer who is from the Kenya Army’s special operations Brigade, was a central figure during Kenya’s invasion of Somalia in 2011. Since then, he has risen through the military ranks to become a powerful General, especially in the Kenya Army.
Born 57 years ago in Narok County, Major General Nkoimo could rise to the rank of Lieutenant General in future and take the command of the Kenya Army.
