A somber mood engulfed Ngeca village in Mbeere South Constituency as relatives, friends, and residents gathered for the burial of Jackline Wanjiru.

The 27-year-old businesswoman died from severe injuries after unknown assailants attacked her with highly concentrated acid in Kiritiri Town, Embu County.

Reports indicate that Wanjiru was heading to the miraa market at around 5:30 a.m. when the incident occurred.

She had hired a boda boda rider to take her to the market before the assailants struck during the dawn attack.

The rider also sustained injuries after the corrosive substance was splashed on him. Both victims were rushed for treatment, but Wanjiru’s burns proved fatal.

During the emotional funeral service, speakers eulogized Wanjiru as a dedicated, peaceful, and hardworking young woman who was simply trying to make an honest living.

Many mourners struggled to hold back tears as they condemned the cruel attack and called for justice.

Relatives expressed pain and frustration over the slow progress of investigations, noting that no suspect has been arrested since the incident.

The family urged security agencies to act quickly and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Leaders and residents who attended the burial condemned the rising cases of violence against women and called on authorities to strengthen security in the area.

Authorities have promised to intensify investigations, establish the motive behind the attack, and unmask the assailants.

The family now hopes detectives will act swiftly so they can finally get justice for their loved one.
