Fear and tension gripped Kitengela on Monday morning after suspected goons took over sections of the Namanga Highway and began attacking motorists with stones, causing panic among drivers and residents.

The violence disrupted transport and business activities in the busy town as several motorists were forced to slow down, change routes or abandon their journeys to avoid the attacks.Witnesses reported that groups of youths barricaded parts of the road while targeting vehicles passing through the area.

The unrest comes amid ongoing protests linked to the nationwide opposition against rising fuel prices.

Transport operators had earlier announced a strike, a move that affected movement in Nairobi and neighbouring towns.

In Kitengela, traders kept their businesses closed as tension escalated, with many residents fearing further violence.Public transport was also affected, leaving some commuters stranded during the morning rush hour.

Security agencies were deployed to monitor the situation as authorities worked to restore calm and prevent further disruptions along the busy highway connecting Nairobi and Kajiado County.

The incident added to growing concerns over insecurity and public disorder during the fuel price protests, with motorists calling for urgent action to guarantee their safety on major roads.
