Wamuchomba

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has taken to Facebook to express her frustration over what she describes as political betrayal within Mt Kenya circles. Her post came shortly after a public fallout erupted between National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata following Kang’ata’s exit from the ruling UDA party.

Wamuchomba expressed regret for defending Rigathi Gachagua during his impeachment while some leaders were allegedly negotiating behind the scenes to replace him. She claimed that ordinary supporters like herself shed genuine tears while certain politicians secretly lobbied for the vacant Deputy President position.

Her post referenced Ichung’wah’s recent revelations that Kang’ata had approached him during the impeachment period pushing for faster action and positioning himself as a potential replacement for Gachagua. Ichung’wah has since publicly called out what he termed hypocrisy warning Kang’ata against using his name to gain sympathy from Gachagua’s support base.

Wamuchomba went further by raising personal grievances against an unnamed individual widely linked to the unfolding drama. She demanded repayment for court-related expenses and raised concerns over an unpaid KSh 2 million pledge reportedly made for a children’s football event at Erisya Hotel. She named witnesses Munene wa Mumbi and Rose Official MC insisting the pledge was never honoured despite earlier assurances.

She also questioned the legitimacy of a title deed connected to the matter asking whether the original document had been taken away. Writing partly in Sheng she called for a financial settlement saying both parties should be “draw” once her losses were compensated.

Kang’ata recently announced he would not defend his Murang’a gubernatorial seat on a UDA ticket in 2027 citing policy differences with the party. He has been linked to possible alignment with Gachagua’s Democratic Change Party ahead of the next election cycle. He has downplayed Ichung’wah’s claims describing him as a friend and refusing to engage further on the Deputy President candidacy issue.

Ichung’wah on his part has dismissed Kang’ata’s account highlighting past inconsistencies and what he called weak loyalty to the party.

Wamuchomba’s outburst reflects deep fractures forming in Central Kenya politics as 2027 approaches. Her reference to leaders who sat on the fence while secretly scheming has struck a chord with grassroots supporters who viewed Gachagua’s impeachment as politically motivated.
