A family in Kisumu has sparked heated debate after chasing away their son’s wife when she returned home asking for forgiveness months after leaving him and their child for another man.
According to a report by Radio 47, the woman had walked out of her marriage and left her child behind to start a new life with another partner. But after things reportedly fell apart in that new relationship, she decided to return to her matrimonial home hoping to rebuild her family.
Her husband was said to be willing to forgive her and give their marriage another chance. But his family had completely different plans.
The moment she arrived back in the village, she was confronted by angry in-laws and residents who refused to hear her out. Instead, they forcefully marched her out of the compound while caning her.
“Walk, let’s go. We will help her pack her clothes. Stop looking back. If you return here again, you will meet us,” some family members were heard warning.
One woman openly accused her of disgracing the family and claimed she had multiple lovers. The woman reportedly stayed silent as the dramatic scene unfolded, while anyone trying to defend her was shut down immediately.
Online, Kenyans were sharply divided.
Some praised the family’s actions, saying she made her choice and should face the consequences. “In-laws did a good job,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “Kiboko iongezwe.”
But others argued that forgiveness and second chances matter. “Everyone makes mistakes. If there is love, let her return,” another Kenyan said.
A pastor also joined the debate, saying not every broken marriage should be judged the same way.
