Kenya’s First Lady Rachel Ruto has captured attention in Sierra Leone after receiving a grand and heartwarming welcome during the country’s 65th Independence Day celebrations in Freetown.

Photos shared by Lightcast TV Kenya show Rachel Ruto arriving to an unforgettable reception from excited Sierra Leonean women who came out in large numbers to welcome her.

Dressed in beautiful traditional outfits, the women sang, danced, clapped and ululated with joy as they surrounded her, creating a powerful display of African unity and hospitality.

Rachel, who looked elegant in a colourful African print dress matched with a blue blazer, smiled warmly throughout the reception. She appeared deeply touched as she greeted the women one by one, embracing the special moment with grace and humility.

The celebrations continued during a formal state dinner where Rachel was seen seated beside Sierra Leone’s First Lady. The two shared warm conversations and smiles in a beautifully decorated venue filled with Sierra Leone’s national colours of green, white and blue.

 

Rachel also addressed distinguished guests from a podium carrying the official seal of the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, a powerful moment that highlighted Kenya’s strong diplomatic ties across Africa.

Later, she joined guests outside for traditional cultural performances, where local entertainers showcased Sierra Leone’s rich heritage through music and dance. Rachel was seen clapping along and enjoying every moment, showing genuine appreciation for the country’s culture.

This year, Sierra Leone celebrated its 65th Independence Anniversary under the theme, “Building a Responsive, Resilient and Cohesive Sierra Leone.”

 

The country gained independence from British colonial rule on April 27, 1961, under Sir Milton Margai.

Rachel Ruto represented Kenya with elegance, pride and African sisterhood, and Freetown gave her a reception many will remember for a long time.
