A relief for the family of a young woman whose body was found in her boyfriend’s house in Likoni, Mombasa, after she was finally identified.
The deceased has been confirmed as 21-year-old Fedelis Chepchumba, who originally came from Kuresoi in Nakuru County.
Family members say Chepchumba had travelled to Mombasa in December last year in search of better opportunities.
She had secured a job at a supermarket through the help of a friend and was trying to build a new life away from home.
Her relatives describe her as hardworking and hopeful about her future.
Her death has, however, shocked both her family and residents of the area.
Chepchumba was reported missing from her workplace, prompting concern among her colleagues.
After three days of searching, her body was discovered on Saturday, April 25, 2026, inside a house located in the Mtaa wa Maka area of Likoni.
Neighbors who responded to the incident said the house belonged to a man identified as Austine Safu, believed to be her boyfriend.
According to residents, the suspect worked at a bakery in Mombasa town and had been living with Chepchumba for about eight months.
Witnesses claim that the man disappeared shortly after the incident, raising suspicion about his involvement in the young woman’s death.
His current whereabouts are unknown, and police have launched investigations and a manhunt to track him down.
Police officers who arrived at the scene found the house locked from the outside, which immediately raised alarm.
They were forced to break the door to gain access.
Inside, they discovered Chepchumba’s body lying on the bed. Authorities noted that she had visible injuries on her face and neck, suggesting she may have been assaulted before she died.
The body was later moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary to allow for a postmortem examination.
According to the deceased’s elder brother, Isaac Kipkoech Lang’at, the results of the autopsy revealed that Chepchumba was manually strangled to death.
Chepchumba was a graduate of Sereini College in Nakuru, where she studied hospitality.
