Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has called for the resignation of Hassan Omar as Secretary General of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), following serious allegations over financial misconduct within the ruling party.
In a statement issued on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Muturi claimed that an internal audit had revealed that UDA employees failed to remit statutory deductions, including contributions to the Social Health Authority (SHA) and the Housing Levy. According to him, more than KSh 60 million remains unaccounted for.
Muturi strongly criticized the situation, describing it as a “blatant insult” to Kenyans who are required by law to comply with such deductions. He argued that it is unacceptable for a party that champions these policies to allegedly fail in implementing them internally.
He further accused Hassan Omar of betraying public trust, emphasizing that failure to remit statutory deductions is a criminal offence under Kenyan law. Muturi insisted that leadership requires accountability, and called on Omar to step forward and address the allegations directly.
“Leadership is not about issuing directives from a distance, it is about taking responsibility when systems under your watch fail,” Muturi stated, adding that credibility cannot be built on enforcing rules that leaders themselves do not follow.
At the same time, Muturi criticized the government for what he termed as double standards—demanding sacrifice from citizens while allegedly failing to uphold the same obligations within its own structures. He questioned the moral authority of leaders to enforce policies they do not adhere to.
The remarks add pressure on UDA leadership, as questions emerge over transparency and accountability within the ruling party.
