A Kilifi court has sentenced a man to 31 years in prison for defiling a minor in a case that has drawn widespread attention from child rights advocates.
According to reports, the convict, identified as Collins Khamisi, received his sentence on April 22, 2026, after being found guilty of the offence.
The court heard that Khamisi committed the heinous act against the minor, a crime that violates the Sexual Offences Act and attracts stiff penalties aimed at protecting vulnerable children.
A report by Bahari FM revealed that the incident took place on March 16, 2025, in Kilifi County. Following the assault, the matter was promptly reported to authorities. The suspect was arrested shortly after and taken into custody as investigations commenced.
Khamisi appeared in court on several occasions during the trial, where the prosecution presented evidence linking him to the crime.
Witnesses, including the victim’s family, testified against him, leading to his conviction.
In delivering the sentence, the magistrate noted that the punishment should serve as a deterrent to others who may contemplate similar offences.
The court emphasized the need to safeguard children from sexual exploitation and abuse.
Child protection agencies have welcomed the ruling, saying it reinforces justice for survivors.
The minor continues to receive counseling and support from relevant authorities.
