Officials in Elgeyo Marakwet County have detained a local chief, his spouse, and two additional suspects in connection with a serious sexual attack reported at the chief’s residence in Kapsaos village.
The survivor, whose name has been concealed for security reasons, is undergoing treatment after surgery to correct severe injuries suffered during the incident.Health workers stated that the assault resulted in significant damage that required immediate medical care.
In her account, the woman said she had visited the chief’s home in search of casual employment but was instead subjected to a distressing experience.
She explained that she was later requested to stay overnight, after which the chief’s wife allegedly locked her inside, leaving her vulnerable to the assailant.
She added that although she tried to fight back, she was eventually subdued.
The case has triggered outrage among local residents, who argue that it highlights increasing insecurity in the area.Many voiced concern that such an incident could occur within a residence linked to leadership and public confidence.
Residents have also connected the surge in crime to the shutdown of a nearby police post, saying the lack of law enforcement has allowed criminal activities to increase. They are now urging authorities to reopen the station without delay and enhance security in the region.
The survivor is recuperating at a hospital in Uasin Gishu County, where she is receiving both medical attention and psychological support.
Although the operation helped treat her physical injuries, she noted that the emotional effects remain deep and ongoing.
Community leaders and residents are calling for a comprehensive inquiry and prompt justice.
They maintain that those involved must face the law to rebuild trust in local security structures.
Police have begun investigations as the suspects remain in custody.
The incident has also raised broader concerns about safety in rural areas and the need for better protection of vulnerable individuals.
