A heated political debate has erupted after prominent lawyer Ahmednasir Abdulahi weighed in on the growing internal rivalry within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), suggesting that a leadership realignment may be necessary as the party prepares for a post-Raila Odinga era.
Ahmednasir highlighted what he described as two emerging factions within ODM—“Linda Mwananchi” and “Linda Ground”—both of which he said are competing to inherit Raila Odinga’s vast political influence.
According to the lawyer, the faction associated with Oburu Odinga, which he referred to as the “Linda Ground” group, is struggling to consolidate support and direction.
He contrasted this with the “Linda Mwananchi” faction, which he linked to Caroli Omondi, whom he openly endorsed as the most suitable successor.
“It is time for the two groups to come together, bury the hatchet and unite under the leadership of Hon. Caroli Omondi and make Raila proud,” Ahmednasir stated. He further argued that Omondi possesses the vision and capacity required to steer ODM into a strong future.
The remarks have ignited fresh political debate within ODM ranks and among political observers, as discussions around succession and leadership transition continue to intensify ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
While ODM has not officially acknowledged any factional division, internal dynamics within the party have increasingly come under public scrutiny, especially as long-time leader Raila Odinga gradually steps back from frontline politics.
Supporters of Caroli Omondi have welcomed the endorsement, describing him as a rising leader with modern political vision.
However, others view the remarks as premature and potentially divisive, warning that public endorsements of succession battles could deepen internal tensions.
As ODM navigates its future, Ahmednasir’s comments have added a new layer of intrigue to an already evolving political landscape—raising questions about unity, leadership, and the party’s direction in the post-Raila era.
