CS Soipan Tuya on Wednesday welcomed Dr. Monica Juma, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna, for a courtesy call at the Ministry of Defence HQs.Dr. Juma, who previously served as Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Defence, returned to the Ministry in a visit described by CS Tuya as both meaningful and inspiring.

During her tenure, she left a lasting legacy that continues to shape the country’s security and diplomatic frameworks.

Speaking about Dr. Juma, CS Tuya highlighted her remarkable career, describing her as a trailblazer in public service.

“From her stewardship of Defence, Foreign Affairs, and Energy portfolios to her current global leadership roles, Dr. Juma has consistently demonstrated strategic clarity, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to advancing Kenya’s national and international interests,” she said.

The discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between Kenya and the United Nations in addressing emerging and complex security threats.

Both leaders explored opportunities to strengthen capacity-building for the Kenya Defence Forces and to advance regional peace and stability initiatives.CS Tuya also noted Dr. Juma’s role as a mentor and source of inspiration for many in public service, citing her journey from academia and policy research to international leadership.

Her continued contribution to global peace and security, Tuya said, is a source of pride for Kenya.
