Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially unveiled Vincent Kibet Rotich as the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) flag bearer for the upcoming Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election, setting the stage for a high-stakes political showdown in Narok County.
Recent reports indicate the by-election is set for May 14, 2026, not May 13, and the seat fell vacant following the death of MP Johana Ng’eno.
Rotich will now face off against David Keter, who clinched the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket after a tightly contested party nomination.
The battle is already shaping up as more than just a constituency race, with both camps viewing it as a key test of political strength ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the unveiling, Gachagua threw his weight behind Rotich, describing him as a strong and dependable leader capable of carrying forward the legacy of the late Johana Ng’eno.
The DCP leader urged residents of Emurua Dikirr to rally behind Rotich, saying the constituency needed bold and fearless representation in Parliament.
In a dramatic warning that immediately drew political attention, Gachagua cautioned Rotich against what he described as possible attempts by President William Ruto and UDA operatives to “buy off” opposition candidates.
He told his new candidate to remain loyal to the people and resist any financial or political pressure that could derail the DCP campaign.
According to reports, Gachagua alleged that such tactics had been used before and insisted that Rotich must not betray the trust of voters.
Rotich, for his part, embraced the challenge and vowed to stay the course. He assured supporters that he would not be intimidated or lured away from the race, declaring that he was fully committed to flying the DCP flag and championing the interests of Emurua Dikirr residents.
His remarks appeared aimed at energising Gachagua’s support base and presenting himself as a grassroots candidate ready for the political battle ahead.
