A church in Nairobi has suspended one of its members following a shocking acid attack incident involving a young choir singer identified as Mary Claire.
In an official statement released by The Lighthouse Ministers Nairobi, the church leadership confirmed that a man believed to be connected to the attack has been stopped from taking part in all church activities as investigations continue.
The statement, signed by chairperson Whycliffe Oiro, expressed deep sadness over the incident and sent a message of sympathy to the victim.
The church said it was heartbroken by the pain and suffering Mary Claire is going through and assured her of prayers and support during this difficult time.
According to the church, the suspect, identified as Elvis Opiyo, has been a member of the church choir, where he served as a bass singer and also worked as a technical adviser.
However, following the serious allegations linking him to the brutal attack, the church took immediate action to suspend him.
Leaders of the church made it clear that they do not support or condone any form of violence.
They strongly condemned the act, describing it as completely against their teachings, values, and faith.
The statement emphasized that human life is sacred and should always be protected.
The suspension of Opiyo, the church noted, is a precautionary step. It will remain in place as authorities carry out investigations and any legal processes that may follow.
The church also clarified that the suspension does not mean he has been found guilty, but is meant to allow due process to take place without interference.
Reports indicate that the attack may have been linked to a troubled relationship between the suspect and the victim, though this has not yet been officially confirmed by investigators.
