Starehe MP and singer Jaguar has advised Kenyan musicians to adapt to the changing scenes in the industry.
He said that new musicians keep sprouting, and this may make the existing ones lose their impact or popularity.
Speaking to journalists, Jaguar recalled how he was a top musician after releasing his track ‘Kigeugeu’.
However, the fame did not last forever, as the Sauti Sol music group rose to become more popular than him.
“There was a time I was an A-lister in Kenya, then after some time I realized Sauti Sol have defeated me, why did I accept?
I even stopped singing because I saw the competition from Sauti Sol, I can not compete with them. And there was a time I used to advise Sauti Sol,” Jaguar said.
The singer cum MP said he accepted defeat from Sauti Sol and decided to venture into politics.
“When i released ‘One Centimeter’ they released ‘Sura yako’, i tried to catch up by doing a remix with Iyanya, they did a remix too, and finished me,” he said.
He acknowledged that he can not match the top musicians in Kenya right now “even today i can not compete with Otile Brown.”
“I used to attend Nameless and Jua Cali concerts, that time they were big, when i released Kigeugeu i became top. So you either re brand yourself or leave it. When i saw something else i can do, i decided to join politics.”
