A man with a PhD has caused a big discussion online after sharing how little he earned as a university lecturer. The man, known as Engineer Bimmy, said he felt very emotional when he looked at his old payslip from his teaching job.

He explained that he worked at Covenant University and was earning about 133,000 Nigerian naira per month, which is around KSh 12,400. Many people were surprised because they expected someone with such a high level of education to earn much more.

To prove his point, he shared his payslip from January 2024. It showed that his basic salary was 90,315 naira. After adding some allowances, his total pay reached 197,052 naira. However, after deductions, he only took home 133,000 naira.

His story quickly spread on social media, and many people shared their opinions. Some asked whether he was getting extra benefits like free housing, electricity, or water. Others said that such a salary is too low for someone who spent many years studying and doing research.

Some people also suggested that maybe he was a junior lecturer or had other sources of income like research grants or publications. Still, many agreed that university lecturers deserve better pay.

The story has raised questions about how professionals, especially teachers in higher education, are paid. It has also made people think about whether the effort and time spent getting advanced degrees are truly rewarded.

Overall, the discussion shows that many people feel that education should lead to better opportunities and fair pay.
