KERICHOTOWN – The Kipsigis community is in a somber mood. An old Simotwet tree, a symbol of their heritage, has fallen in Kericho Town.

This happened shortly after the death of MP Johanna Ngeno in a helicopter accident, leading some residents to see a deeper between the two events.

For many years, the Simotwet tree was a key part of Kipsigis culture and a place for gatherings. Its sudden collapse has saddened locals, with some viewing it as a sign.

They are grieving the loss of a leader whose impact went beyond politics and touched the community’s heart.

This tree has always been here. Its fall reminds us of the emptiness left by our MP, said an elder at the tree’s location.

MP Johanna Ngeno’s death in the helicopter crash was a shock. People all over Kenya have paid their respects. He pushed for projects in Emurua Dikir and Kericho.

He was admired for caring about his people and being involved in politics. His funeral is on Friday, March 6th, and many people are expected to attend.

As the community deals with losing both a landmark and a respected leader, many have visited the fallen tree to pray. They are thinking about life and the role of nature and leaders in shaping who they are.

The people of Kericho will always remember the fall of the Simotwet tree as a reminder of their past and a moment to honor those who have shaped their community.
