There was a situation in Bondo during the burial ceremony of the late Beryl Odinga after rowdy youths reportedly from JOOUST tried to disrupt the event with chants, shouts and heckles directed at various politicos present.
The shouts and heckles drew the attention of the family matriarch Dr Ida Odinga who was forced to chip in to calm the situation.
Seemingly sad and angered by the display of blatant disrespect by the youths, a furious Mama Ida Odinga stood up and demanded that they keep quiet and show respect or leave the event.
“Listen, those shouting outside the tent. I am speaking on behalf of the Jaramogi Oginga family. Please keep quiet or leave this event,” she said.
“We are gathered here to respectfully send off our beloved in peace. We demand that you respect us enough to keep quiet. She (the late) might not be your relative, so you can as well as choose to leave,” she added.
As revealed by Dr Idah herself, the youth had arrived at the event in company of political leaders from the region who were attending the burial ceremony. They were reportedly from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University.
To manufacture fame and following, most politicians in Kenya usually hire rowdy youths to cheer them at public events.
In most circumstances, the politicos usually don’t care what the occasion is. Be it a funeral or a church service or a rally, they will still hire cheerleaders to score cheap political points.
Sometimes, they will choose to arrive late when everyone else is seated so as they can be seen by everybody, moreso, their competitors.
