Kyallo Lover

Dating has changed for many young Kenyans, and the shift is easy to see. A lot of people no longer rush into serious relationships. Instead, they choose situationships—connections that feel like dating but avoid labels, pressure or commitment. At first it seems easier, but it usually comes with its own confusion.

One reason for this change is emotional fatigue. People are tired. Life is already heavy, and many feel they don’t have the energy to fully invest in someone else. Some fear heartbreak because they’ve seen too many relationships fail publicly or painfully. Others want companionship but are unsure about long-term plans like marriage or family.

Social media adds fuel to the uncertainty. Perfect relationships online make real ones feel inadequate. When you constantly compare your partner to polished photos and videos, your connection starts feeling small. So people choose something lighter—less risk, fewer expectations.

But quietly, many situationships leave both people unsure and emotionally drained.

Sometimes clarity is kinder than comfort, and honesty builds the stability everyone secretly wants.
