Health CS Aden Duale on Friday, November 14, reflected on his long political journey intertwined with the growth of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as the party marked its 20th anniversary. In a social media post, CS Duale recounted how ODM provided him with his first platform in public service, representing the people of Dujis Constituency in 2007.
He highlighted that the party played a pivotal role in shaping Kenya’s democratic space, offering a platform for freer voices and expanded participation in governance.
“When we speak of democracy in this country, we speak the name of one man who lived for it, suffered for it, and insisted that no Kenyan should ever fear their own voice: The Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga,” Duale noted, paying tribute to the late ODM stalwart.
CS Duale further reflected on the lessons learned during his years in ODM and how the principles of the party continue to resonate in his work under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
He emphasized the complementary role of democracy and delivery in governance, asserting that freedoms must be protected while ensuring that services reach the people. The Cabinet Secretary described ODM’s 20-year journey as one of struggle, sacrifice, and steadfast belief in democratic ideals.
He acknowledged the party for nurturing leaders and expanding the democratic frontier, highlighting that political paths may diverge, but the legacy of service, courage, and commitment to the people remains.
Duale concluded by celebrating the symbolic colors of Kenya’s political landscape, noting that while he began in the “orange” of ODM, the “yellow” of UDA now guides his work—both representing hope, service, and dedication to the nation.
