Kenyan musician Willy Paul has spoken out strongly against what he calls a growing trend among male artists—depending on older women for money. The singer, known for his bold personality, said he has never been “kept” by a wealthy woman and encouraged his fellow musicians to follow his example.
Speaking in a recent social media post, Willy Paul said it is shameful for men to rely on women for financial support. He called on artists to work hard for their own success instead of depending on relationships for money.
“Tuache kula pesa za wamama. Kuna wale wameachwa na mabwana wako na stress,” Poze said, meaning men should stop taking money from women, especially those already struggling emotionally or financially. He added that such behavior is not only disrespectful but also sends the wrong message to young people.
Willy Paul went on to urge male musicians to dress responsibly and avoid wearing female clothes for attention or fashion trends. He said artists are public figures and should act as role models to their children and to the next generation.
“Hiyo ni example mbaya mnaweka kwa watoto wangu, wako na watoto wengine,” he added, explaining that musicians should set positive examples for the youth.
The artist, who has been in the industry for over a decade, reminded his peers that music can be a source of good income if one works hard and stays disciplined. He said depending on sponsors or “mumamas” might bring short-term comfort but damages one’s reputation and dignity in the long run.
Willy Paul’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions online. Some fans praised him for promoting self-respect and responsibility among male musicians, while others felt he was attacking those who make personal lifestyle choices.
Still, his message was clear: success should come from hard work, not from relationships built on financial dependence.
