A Murang’a plumber, Samuel Muigai, has become a local sensation after revealing that his striking resemblance to comedian Eric Omondi played a major role in helping him win the heart of his wife.
Muigai, who hails from Kandara, said people have often mistaken him for the popular comedian, with strangers stopping him on the streets for photos or greetings.
“At first, it was funny, but later I realized it could be a blessing,” he said, smiling. “When I met my wife, she immediately noticed the resemblance and joked that she couldn’t believe she was dating ‘Eric Omondi.’”
According to Muigai, his wife initially thought he was using the resemblance to gain attention, but she later came to appreciate his humility and sense of humor.
“When she finally met my family and realized I was just an ordinary plumber, she laughed so hard,” he recalled. “She told me she had fallen in love with the real me, not the celebrity look-alike.”
However, Muigai said that looking like a celebrity comes with challenges. He often faces teasing, and some people accuse him of pretending to be Eric Omondi.
“Sometimes clients expect me to be as funny as him, and when I’m not, they get disappointed,” he said.
Despite the misunderstandings, Muigai remains proud of his resemblance and hopes to meet the real Eric Omondi someday. “It would be a dream come true to work with him, maybe even appear in one of his skits,” he said.
The proud father and husband said his story is a reminder that looks may open doors—but character is what keeps them open.
