A major Cabinet reshuffle is reportedly on the horizon as President William Ruto plans to expand his government to include leaders from regions traditionally aligned with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Reliable sources indicate that the president aims to promote national unity and political inclusivity by bringing on board influential figures from Nyanza, Western, Ukambani, and the Coast regions—areas where Raila Odinga’s political influence has historically been strong.
According to insiders, the president’s move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections while bridging the existing political and regional divides.
In the Nyanza region, which has long been an opposition stronghold, the president is said to be reaching out to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed. Both lawmakers have been close allies of Raila Odinga and vocal figures within the opposition camp.
Their inclusion in government, if it materializes, would mark a significant political shift and could signal the beginning of a new working relationship between the president and the Nyanza political leadership.
In Western Kenya, the president is reportedly courting Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Shinyalu MP Caleb Hamisi. Both leaders are considered influential voices in the region and within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Their entry into the government could help President Ruto consolidate support in a region that has historically leaned toward opposition politics but remains politically strategic due to its voter strength.
Meanwhile, in the Ukambani region, President Ruto is said to be eyeing the inclusion of former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu and Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo. Ngilu, a seasoned politician and former cabinet secretary, is viewed as a key player in Ukambani politics with the potential to boost the president’s influence in the region.
Senator Maanzo’s participation would also strengthen the administration’s appeal among Kamba voters, who have traditionally supported Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Additionally, reports suggest that President Ruto may also reconsider bringing Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro into a more prominent role within his administration. Nyoro, a close ally of the president and a strong voice within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, is seen as a rising star in national politics.
The impending reshuffle, therefore, appears to be a calculated move by the president to expand his political base, enhance inclusivity, and build a government that reflects broader national representation.
