Lying in State in Parliament is the nation’s highest honour, reserved for national leaders or eminent citizens.

It is an uncodified tradition that recognises service within the people’s House, allowing Parliament and the public to affirm an individual’s impact as a national voice.

The tribute moment precedes the State Funeral, offering leaders and citizens an opportunity to honour the legacy.

During this period, Parliament convenes solely to pay homage.

Past honourees include Presidents Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, ex-Vice-President Kijana Wamalwa, and ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga, reflecting their enduring contributions to Kenya.
