Former Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi has expressed regret over his role in championing the Kenya Kwanza coalition during the 2022 general election, pointing to unmet promises under President William Ruto’s leadership. Havi, who actively participated in the coalition’s campaign messaging, said the alliance sold a people-centered agenda anchored on the bottom-up economic model, which gave hope to millions of Kenyans seeking relief from economic hardships.

He noted, however, that three years into Ruto’s presidency, the situation has deteriorated, with households and businesses grappling with high taxation, runaway inflation, and an ever-growing public debt burden. Havi admitted that Kenyans feel let down by unfulfilled pledges of affordable living and improved economic opportunities.

In a rare political turn, he offered an apology to the public, acknowledging that the campaign had raised expectations that have not materialized. His statement adds weight to growing criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration as discontent over governance, accountability, and the high cost of living continues to dominate the national political conversation.
