Jaavelin Irene

Irene Jepkemboi is blazing a new trail in Kenyan athletics, becoming a force to be reckoned with in women’s javelin.

At just 21, she has already broken her own limits—again and again.

In Eugene, Oregon, she threw 60.31 metres, smashing the national record she had set earlier with a 58.36m throw.

Both marks surpassed a previous Kenyan record held since 2007.

Her rise hasn’t been easy. Growing up in Uasin Gishu County, Jepkemboi trained under modest conditions—few coaching resources, limited facilities, and basic equipment. Yet she kept pushing.

Her dedication paid off in the U.S., where she competes for Texas Christian University (TCU) in NCAA competitions.
