Former director of the Investigations Bureau at the Directorate of Criminals Investigations headquarters, David Birech, on Wednesday made a rare public appearance when he attended a high-level security meeting chaired by the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.

The meeting which was held at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong, brought together top security chiefs who met with all Officer Commanding Station ( OCSs ) across the country.

Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Kenya Police Service wing, Eliud Lagat, was also in attendance.

NPLA commandant, Kainga Mathu was the host of the top security meeting.

As for Birech, it was a rare public appearance for him since being appointed as the director of training and research at the National Police Service headquarters.

Previously, he served as the director of DCI’s Investigations Bureau, the position he took over from Abdallah Komesha. He would later swap positions with Komesha as he took over as the director of Internal Affairs Unit.

Birech, who is in the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police, took over the new position almost two years ago. Since then, he has maintained a very low public profile. He rarely appears in public.
