Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is finally set to land back in the country after staying in the United States for close to a month, and all eyes are now on his planned grand procession to Kamukunji grounds.

The return of Gachagua is already shaping up into a political showdown, with security and political dynamics being openly discussed.

Interior CS Murkomen has assured the public that police are ready to provide security for the procession, but only if proper notification is issued and the event remains peaceful. In a clip shared online by Lightcast TV Kenya, Murkomen made it clear that the government has no issue with political gatherings as long as they don’t turn chaotic. Watch the video here.

The procession is expected to be more than just a welcome rally. Insiders suggest that Gachagua wants to use Kamukunji as a launchpad to re-establish his political muscle after weeks of silence abroad.

His absence has already sparked speculation within political circles about whether his influence in Mount Kenya has been weakening, with other leaders filling the vacuum.

Murkomen’s statement is being read as both a reassurance and a warning. The CS emphasized that the police service has no problem guarding political events, but hinted that anyone trying to destabilize Nairobi’s peace will be dealt with firmly.

This has triggered conversations on whether the state is bracing for possible clashes between Gachagua’s supporters and rival camps.
