Constable Loyford Gitonga, a police officer who was fatally stabbed during a robbery in Dandora, Nairobi, was laid to rest in an emotional ceremony at his home in Murunga, Tharaka Nithi County.
The burial was attended by senior police officers, family members, friends, and colleagues who gathered to honor his life and service.
Gitonga, who served at Dandora Police Station, was described by his superiors as a hardworking and respectful officer who diligently served his country.
His colleagues eulogized him as disciplined, dedicated, and experienced in his duties. The ceremony included a 21-gun salute, a tradition reserved for fallen officers, as a final tribute to his sacrifice.
In a heartfelt tribute, his widow pledged to uphold his legacy of love and integrity within the family.
Gitonga met his untimely death in the early hours of Saturday, August 2 while off duty in Dandora Phase Three. He was reportedly confronted by robbers and fatally stabbed after resisting the attack. His mobile phone was stolen during the incident.
The loss has deeply affected his family, with grieving relatives urging investigating agencies to expedite the probe into his killing and ensure justice is served.
As the police intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators, Gitonga’s memory remains a testament to bravery and selfless service.
