Traditionally, in the Kenyan military, an Aide-de-Camp to the Commander-in-Chief always falls in the rank of Colonel and below. But this tradition has since been defied by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his successor, William Ruto.
Today, President William Ruto’s ADC is a one-star general following the recent promotion from Colonel to Brigadier of Fabian Lengusuranga.
Now, Brigadier Lengusuranga is the man standing behind the President as his ADC.
Brigadier Lengusuranga too succeeded another one-star general in the then Brigadier Timothy Stelu Lekoolol, who has since been promoted to a major general.
Brigadier Lengusuranga’s continued service as an ADC defies the established Kenya Defence Forces norm.
The Ruto ADC hails from the elite Special Operations Brigade of the Kenya Army as shown by his green beret. Perhaps, his training background may suggest that Ruto is valuing his combat expertise rather than protocol.
Amid all this, it remains to be seen for how long Brigadier Lengusuranga is going to continue serving as Ruto’s ADC.
