Musician and digital content creator Flaqo Raz, whose real name is Erastus Otieno, has revealed why he took back a car he had gifted to his former girlfriend, Winnie Keranta, following their breakup.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, 11 August 2025, Flaqo explained that the Nissan Note, worth approximately Ksh 650,000, was registered in his name, which legally made it his property.

Flaqo emphasised that the decision to repossess the vehicle was a practical one rather than an act of spite. He described the car as a “convenient gift” and noted that he did not take back any other presents he had given Keranta during their relationship.

Flaqo added that he preferred to avoid unnecessary drama and aimed to handle the matter quietly and respectfully. The couple’s relationship began gaining public attention when Flaqo surprised Keranta with the car on her 22nd birthday in October 2023, a moment he shared widely on social media.

However, their romance encountered difficulties, and they parted ways around mid-2024. Although the breakup was not officially announced, their social media activity and fewer public appearances together suggested the split.

The revelation has sparked widespread discussion about the complexities of relationships, particularly when expensive gifts are involved. Relationship experts caution that significant presents, especially costly items like vehicles, should ideally be registered in the recipient’s name to avoid complications if the relationship ends.

They also warn that taking back gifts can be perceived as an attempt to exert control or punish an ex-partner and may prolong emotional pain for both parties.

Flaqo’s candid explanation has reignited conversations on social media regarding the etiquette of gift-giving and repossession after breakups, highlighting the challenges faced by couples in the public eye.

As the story continues to unfold, many observers are weighing in on the balance between legal rights and emotional considerations in such situations.
