For the first half of 2025, Equity Bank Group’s net profit increased significantly by more than KSh 22 billion.
James Mwangi, Managing Director and CEO, stated that the KSh 22 billion profit is the bank’s largest quarterly profit ever reported.
The lender’s earnings for the period under review was KSh 22.9 billion, up from KSh 18.6 billion in the first quarter of 2025.
Mwangi, speaking at the presentation of the Half Year 2025 on Monday, August 11, attributed the increase in earnings to disruption in the bank’s business model and transformation.
“Our quarterly profit of Ksh 22.9 billion is the greatest in Equity’s history. We developed a new Equity. This achievement was about disrupting and entirely altering our previous business model, not just optimizing it,” Mwangi explained.
The most recent profit of more than KSh 20 billion was KSh 20.4 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2024.
Equity Bank has posted quarterly profits of less than KSh 11 billion in recent years, until Q1 2021, when it reached KSh 11.7 billion.
